Reasons Why Your Child May Need A Tooth Extracted
Is your child going through some dental health issue where your dentist has recommended tooth extraction? It is important to know that a tooth extraction, in children or adults, should always be the last resort when no other options are available to save the tooth. If you are looking for an initial appointment or even a second opinion on a possible extraction for your child, please visit Dr. Sona Isharani at Triad Pediatric Dentistry in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Severe Tooth Decay
If your child is suffering from tooth decay, tooth extraction will not be necessary unless that decay is too severe to treat. Tooth decay that is mild to moderate in severity can often be treated with a dental filling or root canal. An extraction may be considered when no other options exist for saving a tooth. Even if a tooth extraction is being considered as a remedy for severe tooth decay, all other treatments such as fillings or crowns should be considered before going down this road.
Damage From Injury
Minor injuries to a tooth may be fixable. In some cases, however, a tooth may need to be extracted. If your child was out at recess and took a soccer ball to the face with their tooth only cracked or chipped, then the tooth can most likely be repaired. Only if the damage is too extreme for other restoration treatments to correct should an extraction be considered.

Permanent Teeth Coming Faster Than Baby Teeth Are Falling Out
The natural course for your child’s teeth to take is for their baby teeth to fall out to make room for erupting permanent teeth. Every one of us has gone through it with barely any issues, but this is not always the case. For some children, their permanent teeth begin coming in before the baby teeth fall out. This may not sound like a big deal on the surface, but it can result in several oral health issues. If your child’s teeth are not falling out and they already have some permanent teeth trying to erupt, your child’s dentist may consider extracting their baby teeth.
