Preparing for the First Visit
When getting your child ready for their first dental visit, it is important to make sure they are well-rested and have been fed so that they are not hungry. This will go a long way in making sure your child is in good temperament. Make sure you are aware of your dentist’s copay and what your dental insurance will and will not cover. Finally, bring a list that has any current medications that your child is currently taking. If your child is older when going in for that first appointment, it may be a good idea to discuss the upcoming experience with them and see if they have any anxiety over the visit. Do what you can to ease these anxieties or fears.
What to Expect
During the first visit, the dentist will typically provide education for parents on how to properly care for the child’s teeth and gums. Pacifier use may also be discussed as well as what nutrition is proper for maintaining healthy teeth. Brushing techniques will be demonstrated and then, in the end, the parent(s) should have the opportunity to ask any questions that have not been answered during the course of the appointment.
If your child is ready for that first dental appointment, Dr. Sona Isharani and the staff at Triad Pediatric Dentistry would love to welcome you. To schedule an appointment, please call (336) 804-8668.
